While the very first singles from Sesame Street were referred to as "book and record" sets on their packaging, they actually only contained song lyrics and pictures inside their books. The first true book and record sets, which contained a storybook and a recording of the text, were released in from Random House. They consisted of four stories written by Matt Robinson , and read by him in character as " Gordon of Sesame Street ". The books were also available separately. The Sony Corporation and the Children's Television Workshop said yesterday that they had signed a long-term agreement to develop, produce and distribute Sesame Street audio, video, book-on-tape and feature film titles. Sony Wonder, the children's and family division of Sony Music and Epic Records, will license the Sesame Street audio, video and book rights, while Columbia Pictures, another Sony division, will produce and distribute feature films.
